The other day it started snowing in Toronto, I was not prepared for the first snowfall and had to get my car tires changed because I'm one of those extremely cautious winter drivers, who hate winter because it's just so slippery and I'm worried about everyone driving around me haha.
Luckily for me, my mechanic is a long time family friend and changed my tires right away. Thus, decided to take some outfit photos while waiting for my tires to be changed. This whole outfit is from Forever21+, these are actually one of the pairs of jeans I got recently (you may have noticed I never ever wear jeans). I love them they're so comfy and I can throw anything on with them.
While having a serious room cleaning last weekend, I had a bit of a closet purge and realized just how much clothes I own. I actually recently did a bit of phone questionnaire with Bianca on fashion and fashion shopping habits and it made me think quite a bit.
Mostly it was about my consumer habits, fast fashion, ethical fashion resources, etc. and I honestly do wish I could have most if not all of my wardrobe from somewhere reliable and not produced in mass unethical factories in some (most likely) third world countries. It was kinda sad to say that "no, I don't really know of any companies/brands?" or "no, I don't really know if I own anything fair trade?".
I would love to not shop at "fast fashion" chains all the time, I really, truly would.
The reasoning behind this questionnaire was to really try to figure out consumerism and why people don't shop ethically when it comes to fashion, it was explained to me as something along the lines of; "if you would choose the organics and farmers markets foods over the cheaper and clearly not as nutritious or locally produced foods, why wouldn't you with fashion?" and to me, that totally makes sense. I've already quit shopping for the past while, but now I'm going to make more of an effort to make better shopping choices.
Personally, I believe the reason I don't shop as consciously as I could is due to 3 reasons;
1. I did not make an effort to seek out retailers or stores that could offer me this option, I really never thought too much about that while making shopping decisions before.
2. I have rarely seen any advertisements/brands/anything on Ethical Plus Size Clothing, I personally believe advertisements and promotion make the biggest difference, I'm pretty sure if there was a fashion forward ethical plus size clothing company many people would have heard about it.
3. Researching "Plus Size Ethical Clothing" lead me to a few links, Plus Size Ethical Fashion by Elizabeth Johnson, Plus-Size Eco-Chic by Green Grechen and Where's all the Plus-Sized Eco Fashion by Green and Gorgeous. Aside from those, we're a few Etsy links to ethical Etsy sellers.
Meaning even though, I want to be a conscious consumer it's a lot harder for me than those who can fit in the straight sized eco-friendly stores.
I'd love to hear any thoughts/opinions on this and if you have any ethical plus size clothing stores for me to check out, please let me know!
